Silence in the Oichten Valley

A ROUTE TO BREATHE FREELY IN THE OICHTEN AREA BETWEEN NUSSDORF AND MICHAELBEUERN. PERFECTLY SUITABLE FOR THE TRANSITION PERIOD!

Sometimes you don’t need a spectacular mountain peak or roaring waterfall. Especially during the transition period, the quiet landscapes in the foothill region reveal their very special charms and are attraction enough. Such a completely calming region is the area around the Oichten between Nußdorf and Michaelbeuern. And the snow-covered peaks of the Alps still appear far away on the horizon. Unfortunately, the “Oichten educational and adventure trail” mentioned in maps and descriptions cannot be found. But that’s no problem, the orientation is simple and straightforward, just like the landscape itself. However, if you want to discover a reliable cultural highlight, a visit to the nearby Benedictine Abbey Michaelbeuern is highly recommended. Uncovering secrets and looking into the past is particularly easy there, because on the occasion of 950 years of the abbey church, a special anniversary trail was created. So finally, a marked path through the fascinating church history of Michaelbeuern.

Wegbeschreibung

Starting point is the bus stop Dorfbeuern Vorau on Berndorfer Landesstraße below Michaelbeuern. Diagonally opposite branches off the access road to "Reitsberg", which the route first follows. After 200 m we leave the road again and orient ourselves to the direction "Grub" turning left shortly after a beautiful wayside cross. Gently uphill in a long curve, the asphalt road ends after 1.5 km at the last farm Grub, then a gravel road leads 700 m further to a fork. The road to Schlipfing runs to the right, but our route follows the road briefly to the left and then turns straight ahead onto the field path at the first curve. With a beautiful view of the Oichten Valley and the Alps in the background, the tractor path reaches a farm after 1.3 km. At the end of the short access, the route branches off to the right onto the municipal road in Reitsberg and follows it slightly uphill past a riding stable. Via the districts Schlipfing and Immelsberg with their beautiful farms, chapels and memorial crosses, the unspectacular round closes again in Vorau. If there is still time, a half-hour detour up to the unmistakable Benedictine Abbey Michaelbeuern (next stop Michaelbeuern Ort) is recommended.
