Ski tours around the Rudolfshütte

You can also get there without a car: After the surprisingly uncomplicated approach to the Berghotel Rudolfshütte, magnificent ski route destinations are available to choose from – with or without glacier.

The approach by public transport to destinations along the main routes works excellently, but does it also work to a remote starting point in the middle of the Hohe Tauern, specifically to the Rudolfshütte at 2315 m above sea level? Thanks to the perfect interplay of bus, train, taxi, and cable car, the result is excellent: just under 3 hours for 150 km from Salzburg main station to the valley station Uttendorf Enzingerboden. Another interesting fact: a good part of the train electricity is generated from the two reservoirs Weißsee and Tauernmoossee. The tour destinations at the 3000-m border are not quite as uncomplicated as the approach, but they can be well managed with alpine experience or with the help of mountain guides. Hochfürlegg, Sonnblick, and Granatspitze stand side by side like on a string. Very ambitious athletes cover the trio in one go, more enjoyment comes from climbing day by day combined with a stay at the Berghotel Rudolfshütte. In this case, the taxi fee from Uttendorf station to the Enzingerboden cable car is also included.

Wegbeschreibung

All routes begin with the descent over 80 meters of elevation from the Rudolfshütte to the south shore of the Weißsee. The ice surface must not be walked on.   Day 1 (Kalser Törl 2515 m): For a multi-day stay at the Berghotel Rudolfshütte, the route to the Kalser Törl 2515 m is recommended as an introduction. The track runs through the cirque west of the Medelzkopf chairlift to the pass to East Tyrol. Alternatively, hike 700 m along the south shore and then turn left into the broad, wind-protected cirque between Tauernkogel and Rotkopf up to 2535 m. Day 2 (Hochfürleg 2943 m, south summit): Around the Weißsee south shore, then over a small steep step into the cirque that leads northwards to a rain gauge. In a long left-right combination into a hollow where the track to Sonnblick runs left and the track to Fürleg runs right (N). Through the short but up to 35-degree steep south cirque (crampons) to the first rise (2831 m) on the right (S) or northwards into the notch next to the main summit (2943 m). Day 3 (Stubacher Sonnblick 3088 m): Ascent to the fork, as on the Hochfürlegg route. Then flat to the glacial crevasse, steeply crossing to the left there (crampons, glacier equipment) and in a wide arc flatter again to the steep, northeast-facing summit structure. Depending on conditions, continue with skis, on foot (possibly with crampons), or descend immediately.
