Slope-adjacent ski tour over Rauris-Kreuzboden to the Waldalm
The family-friendly ski region Rauris also has a big heart for ski tourers. A sophisticated route guidance away from the slopes ensures a conflict-free coexistence.
The Rauris Bergbahnen like to take new paths. In summer, visitors can choose, after the gondola ascent, besides extensive walks, for example between the bird of prey observation station near the Hochalm or a gold panning station at the Heimalm. In winter, the area between Hochalm and Kreuzboden belongs to slope skiers, tobogganers, and ski tourers. To avoid conflicts between the three groups, those responsible have developed a sustainable concept. Tobogganers mainly use an existing forest road for their two-and-a-half-kilometer-long descent from the Kreuzboden hut, while the ascent along the signposted slope tours mostly takes advantage of the existing summer trail network. Two main routes with four variations are available for free use. A lack of snow could only lead to shorter sections where you have to carry your equipment in the dense forest, but the ascent to the mid-station is then helpful. The descent takes place on the secured, well-prepared slope.

Wegbeschreibung
The slope-adjacent tour to the Waldalm begins at the valley station of the Kreuzboden chairlift. You can reach it in a 10-minute walk from the Rauris town center bus stop either on foot via Sportstraße, or from the Ortsmitte/Gemeindeamt stop by ski bus. The ascent leads 500 meters along the gentle slope from the valley station and then turns left at a barn onto the narrow, increasingly steep summer trail. After half an hour, the path meets the valley station of the Kreuzboden platter lift for the first time and runs along the edge of the slope to the mountain station of the Kreuzboden lift. The start of the ski tour, for example due to lack of snow, is of course also possible here. The track leads back into the forest and reaches the ski slope just below the Waldalm after a total of 1.5 hours. At the inviting Waldalm (1,690 m), the signposted ascent ends. Those who still want to extend can follow the broad ridge westwards to the mountain station of the Waldalmbahn (1,840 m) and can even add another 100 "slope-free" meters of altitude to an atmospheric devotional cross.
